Greetings from Africa..or as the locals call it Jo'Berg!!
Sorry this has to be quick, but a brief update:
So, yesterday we went to a place called The Lion's Park and had the chance to see lion's up close, it was so fun. I also got the chance to pet 5 2 week-old lions cubs and they were the cutest.
Also, we took Zulu lessons and let's just say I have learned how to say a couple words using the African Click....if you have seen God's Must Be Crazy or Night at the Museum....oh yes...I am not that good, but I am trying! Our teacher who was helping us just laughed at me...apparently i have great facial expressions when I do it.
Today we went to Kayasands which is an informal settlement that used to be a squatter camp. There are 10,000 people living in a 1/4 of a mile radius.....it was unbelievable. I was humbled and just amazed! We had the opportunity to talk with some people, pray with them, and listen to their stories.....it was a great 3rd world experience! Tonight we ate at a missionary home and hears Walter's story, a black man who has had a hard past and his experiences with Apartheid.
God has been good and despite the worlds and horrible conditions we have seen, He is still faithful and amazes me. It has been great to be able to see Jesus in everyone we meet and also be Jesus to others.
OKay all....I may get back to e-mail in a couple days, if not...it may be a couple weeks! Thanks for your prayers...at this time strength for the team and rest would be the best at this point...also, just an open and willing heart to Evangelize with the people we will meet in the ext few weeks!
blessings,
Kristin

In Africa
We made it to Africa...safe and sound, no lost luggage, no sick people!!! Johannesburg reminds me of Downtown LA...smoggy, everyone drives a BMW..a CHEAP CAR here (a luxury car is a Toyota Camry)! In the nice part of the city they drive Corvettes, Lamborghini's....South Africa is seen as a 1st and 3rd World Country......so the place we are staying in now is like a 1st world country...we will be working in a 3rd world country next week!
Currently we are staying at a church upstairs. The place is like a dorm floor where we all fit with a living room. It is very nice! The team is amazing and today we went to the mall to get last minute things and let's say the mall is nicer than Park Meadows, or any mall that you think is nice.....I was impressed!
The rest of the week we will be studying more about African Culture and planning next week. Next week we will be visiting sick people in the morning time and running a kids day camp in the afternoons! Tomorrow we are going to Lion's Park, a Game Reserve, to take lots of pictures!...Sorry I don't have pictures at the moment....not enough time at the moment!!!! My teammates need the computer too!
Love you all, thanks for your prayers! Things are going well! Also, we are having limited Internet access, so I may not get to post another comment until next week some time! Hope you are all doing well!
blessings,
Kristin

In London
So I have about 5 minutes to write but i am in London!!My team and I left and went to Buckingham Palace, to Big Ben, and to Westminster Abbey(hands down, best abbey Ive ever seen...FRIENDS quote)...we also ate at a local restaurant...now we are waiting for or flight to South Africa...
On our flight from Denver to London.....during take off about 3 rows up from us the air bag thingies came down and the internal wall to the bathroom was loose and shaking...we had turbulence for a couple hours, so eating was pretty funny as well as was trying to write!...I was laughing pretty hard...just picture me!
I have met half my team and we will meet the rest in Johannesburg tomorrow morning!! The team is diverse with many strengths...we have already made random thoughts and jokes with the London locals using our accents!!
blessings...look forward to telling you more and hopefully sending some pictures within the next couple days if i can
